Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: Shana tries to work around your schedule. Usually the appointments start with a twelve-thirty booking, then two-thirty and five o’clock. - Q: How do I schedule an appointment?
A: Please call or, preferably TEXT Shana at (207) 347-9811. - Q: Is it appropriate to tip my massage therapist?
A: Tipping policies vary from massage practice to massage practice. At Can Do Massage For You, it is appropriate to tip Shana if you feel she provided you with a session worthy of a gratuity. - Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: Currently, Shana will provide you with an invoice with the appropriate codes as accepted by insurances after your session. You may then submit it to your insurance company. - Q: What methods of payment do you accept?
A: You may pay by cash or check. - Q: How can I receive a discount?
A: You can receive a $10 discount by rebooking within 24 hours of each massage. You can save an additional $5 after you make a referral and that person has received a massage. So you can save $15 total on your massage. - Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Shana requires 24 hour advance notice for cancellation of your appointment. You may choose to send a replacement client in your place or just send a $25 late fee check or authorized charge payment to Shana Petersen at Can Do Massage for You. - Q: What do I wear during a massage?
A: During a massage you are invited to undress to your level of comfort. For some, this means keeping underwear on (for our female clients, a bra is typically not worn); for others, it means completely disrobing. Our client's privacy is always respected - all clients are draped with a sheet and blanket during the entire massage session with only the part being massaged exposed. - Q: What should I expect during my first massage session?
A: Shana will require you to fill out a history and information form. Afterwards she will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Please see the Massage Area Massage Area page for a more visual explanation. - Q: Where will my massage session take place?
A: Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a heated table especially designed for your comfort. - Q: What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
A: Make yourself comfortable. If Shana wants you to adjust your position, she will either move you or will ask you to move. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time. - Q: How will a massage feel?
A: Relaxing and in tune with your body’s needs. A light unscented lotion is used for a smooth glide over your muscles in the warming up of relaxing the muscle, then if there is a knot, slowly deeper pressure is applied to smooth out and relieve the congestion of a knot. Massage should never hurt and everyone’s tolerance for pressure is different, so please let Shana know if you experience more than a slight twinge when she approaches a knot. - Q: Will the massage lotion used make me break out?
A: Shana uses only hypoallergenic massage lotion, which does contain Almond Oil. No one in the past has ever experienced a rash from it, but Shana can use jojoba oil if you’d like. Shana prefers to use lotion since it does not stain clothes, which oil has a chance of doing. - Q: How will I feel after a massage session?
A: Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. Massage therapists sometimes recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment.
