About Shana Petersen, LMT
Name: Shana Lynn Petersen, LMT and Associate Broker for Real Estate
Born: Pensacola, FL (Navy Baby)
Education: Spa Tech Institute in Portland/Westbrook, ME
Post University in Waterbury, CT
Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, ME
Massage Therapist Since: November 2005
Favorite Massage Memory: When I first started my massage practice in February of 2007, I ran a promotion and sent out e-mails to everyone I knew locally. A wonderful new friend posted it on Mom to Mom of Maine network and the calls FLOODED in! I worked for seventeen days straight with my hands aching and needing to be iced daily. I still, gratefully, have some of those initial clients coming to me for massage. This experience gave me amazing self-confidence that if I am a massage therapist and I am motivated, clients will come! And, it also confirmed with the ease of gaining clients that I am meant to be a massage therapist.
Favorite Color: Silver peony (by Sherwin Williams) which is the lavender grey that is used in my logo, along with Sea Salt which is the green grey that is the color of the massage room.
Why I am a Massage Therapist: Living in the Connecticut/New York area for eleven years, where they are not inclined to be the hugging type, which Maine seems to be, I missed that caring gesture. I worked in the corporate world for that time as a marketing assistant and was constantly told that I “didn’t handle stress well.” I tried to change my personality, concentrated on achieving better health through yoga, being a vegetarian, and joining a woman’s support/empowerment group, but could NOT achieve this “stress management goal.” Frustrated, I realized it might not be simply my personality, but my career choice. By becoming a Massage Therapist, did I achieve a stress-less life? No. I am simply not that easy-going and laid back. I am able to nurture the clients who are in a nurturing environment – such as nurses and parents. I am able to give all clients an hour or so time to just relax, be in touch with their physical and mental body needs. And, selfishly, I am able to relax with my clients, hear their stories, and get a hug at the end of nearly every session!
Favorite Quotation: “It is beauty that captures your attention, but personality which capture your heart.” - Anonymous
